Horizontal Directional Drilling Enhances Shetland's Power Grid.

Nicol of Skene is pleased to announce significant progress on the Gremista-Shetland-HDD-132kV UGC Works project. This critical infrastructure development aims to significantly enhance Shetland's power grid reliability and efficiency.

The project involves installing two underground 132kV circuits that will connect the Kergord and Gremista substations. To minimise environmental impact, particularly in Shetland's sensitive areas, Nicol of Skene is utilising the Ditch Witch AT120, a state-of-the-art Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) machine. This advanced technology allows for efficient installation with minimal disruption to the surrounding environment.

Scheduled for completion in October 2024, the Gremista-Shetland-HDD-132kV UGC Works project plays a vital role in ensuring a reliable and efficient flow of electricity throughout these substations.
